The eleven women who comprise Women in Action for Women (WAW) are all survivors of abduction by the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), a rebel group that operated in northern Uganda for over two decades from the 1980s to the early 2000s. In partnership with the Advocacy Project (AP), a non-profit based in Washington D.C., these women find strength in telling their stories through embroidery, and seek communal solutions to financial difficulties. The goal of WAW is to enable survivors of abduction to enhance their income through the development of vocational skills, sustainable small scale enterprise, and access to credit.
